Metro Vancouver (GVRD) Regional Planning / Agriculture Committee May 9: RGS, ALC, Pitt Meadows, Dist North Vancouver, food systems, awards,

The Metro Vancouver (GVRD) Regional Planning and Agriculture Committee meeting willMetro Vancouver Board start at 9 am on Friday, May 9, 2014. The full agenda (10 MB, PDF, 197 pages) can be downloaded from the official website.

Prominent on the agenda are agricultural and food topics, plus requests for amendments to the Regional Growth Strategy. These changes require public scrutiny early on. Citizens in each community are encouraged to follow these processes closely and be involved. Note that Committee meetings are NOT streamed by web video — permitting it to be less transparent and accountable to the public. Citizens are encourage to make this an election issue for November 2014 civic elections:  Improve accountability at Metro Vancouver.

No discussion of the Southlands public hearing of May 1 is on the agenda, but people may find it interesting to read the detailed report of each speaker’s statements to Committee on March 7 regarding that project. See pages 5-17 of 197 in the PDF agenda file. (Regarding Southlands, WHEN will the substantial discussion happen, and when will the decision be made? The Delta Optimist speculates that it will happen at the next Board meeting on May 23. After that, the next Regional Planning meeting currently scheduled is June 6, and the next Board meeting June 27. Is it possible that discussions will be held in camera at any of these meetings?

For convenience we copy the May 9 agenda below, with bold to highlight some items. Please e-mail observations to citizenyvr@gmail.com.
