The Metro Vancouver Board of Directors will be having a special meeting in Chilliwack. Parts of the GVRD_Board-January_26_2012-Agenda (PDF) are copied below below. We have confirmed that the meeting is open to the public, but parts will be closed. Citizens from all Lower Mainland municipalities may find this meeting to be of importance as it could set the tone in Metro Vancouver for this new three-year term until the 2014 civic elections. Also, oil tankers in Burrard inlet (and in fact, on the Fraser River for YVR) are a hot topic these days. Metro Vancouver has a lot of sway over the ports. Note that Robin Silvester (President and Chief Executive Officer, Port Metro Vancouver) has been invited to present. Will Metro Vancouver Board members be actively engaging Mr. Silvester about the Morgan-Kinder Oil Terminal and oil tanker exports at this meeting (see report of Jan 22, 2012 public meeting)? Residents around the region can let their elected representatives know their concerns prior to this meeting and engage them on the issue of tanker traffic on the municipal level. The meeting venue is outside the GVRD, which makes it more of a challenge for citizens to attend, but if any citizens or civic groups do go, MetroVanWatch welcomes a report afterward.
