In a fun post on CityCaucus.com on September 13 (Amalgamating Metro Vancouver cities makes common sense – right?), Daniel Fontaine raises the idea of amalgamation of 22 separate jurisdictions, each now with its own “administration, city hall, elected politicians, street cleaning crews, pothole and street lamp fixers and so on.” But not into one entity. Into nine, including places like Burnminster.
This, he says, would save 15% of administration costs, enough to pay for the Evergreen Line. This is a provocative idea, and it touches upon some much deeper issues. We’re not sure we agree with the outcomes, but the article is definitely worth a read.
