RGS is on Metro Vancouver Board agenda July 29, 2011 (Fri)

[Update 4 pm, 29-July-2011] See tweets of this meeting on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/digitalmonk1. For full agenda, go to http://www.metrovancouver.org/BOARDS/Pages/BoardsCommittees.aspx.
(Shortly after we announced that we were reporting the meeting live on Twitter, the Board abruptly went “in camera” closed meeting, until the end of the session.)

Today, suddenly Metro Vancouver is bubbling about the RGS, with video announcements on the top page, and a media release. This is in stark contrast to virtually no mainstream media attention given to the plan during negotiations, in fact, a virtual media blackout. Perhaps we will see the lid come off and more discussion about the RGS now.

MetroVanWatch encourages the public to observe this meeting. With virtually no public input on (or even public awareness of) the critical final version of this powerful land-use bylaw, to govern decisions and growth in the region until 2040, the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors on Friday, July 29, will adopt the Regional Growth Strategy. The City of Vancouver, which held not a single public meeting on Vancouver soil on the final draft of the bylaw for open debate about its implications, is already referring to the RGS in the “Next Community Plans” staff report from Director of Planning to council (to be adopted on July 28 at 2 pm) as the higher level document with which Vancouver must comply. July 29 Metro Board agenda is below.
